This major shopping centre expansion includes 41 specialty shops, a Target department store, food outlets, a large basement and roof deck car parking together with redevelopment of the existing car park and re-alignment of the access road. The new shopping centre was built using the top down method of construction enabling the superstructure to be completed prior to the excavation of the basement. The perimeter retaining wall was constructed with a combination of CFA piles and grout columns whilst the internal load bearing columns were constructed in the ground using an innovative piling technique to ensure correct location, verticality and load bearing capacity. Post tensioned slabs to the ground floor and a combination of precast concrete planks and post tensioned concrete beams to the first floor locked the superstructure in position prior to the excavation of the 17,000 sqm basement.
