A steel and concrete framed two storey courthouse includes associated parking, paving, landscaping and irrigation with state of the art courtroom security and technology. The layout incorporates generous waiting spaces which visually connect to the exterior landscape, with local parks, landscaping and warm materials of the regions included in the design. Materials including natural timbers are also used through the building to connect with external stonework which is interspersed with glass panels. The design of the roof references distant hills and landscape and this reflects in the creation of a variety of the volumes in the interior spaces. External sun shades to the Messmate Way elevation are an integral component of the building fabric and help reduce heat by deflecting sunlight.
