Now a bustling community nexus, offering seamless integration with the broader community.

Cooper & Oxley were engaged via a modified traditional tender to deliver the Town of East Fremantle’s vision for a new community, sport and leisure hub, as part of the broader East Fremantle Oval Development. Located on the iconic site which has been home to the mighty East Freo Sharks since 1906.

This included the complete demolition of existing buildings and structures on the site, moving the oval to suit the new precinct layout, and construction of a new two storey building incorporating grandstand, community and club facilities, café, new car parking, landscape works, and the construction of a new playground, skate zone and outdoor half court – all key components of the East Fremantle Oval Development delivered by Cooper & Oxley.

Now complete, this state-of-the-art facility serves as a cohesive community and sporting precinct, catering to the needs of the East Fremantle Football Club, East Fremantle Bowls Club, and the East Fremantle Croquet Club. It is now a bustling community nexus, offering seamless integration with the broader community and presenting an enriched communal experience now known as the East Fremantle Community Park.

Community engagement and feedback integration was key to the design of the precinct and remained top priority throughout delivery.

In collaboration with local residents, the Cooper & Oxley project delivery team worked diligently to implement effective measures aimed at mitigating noise and dust emanation from the construction site.

Our commitment to clear communication, careful planning, and active risk mitigation contributed to the success of the project, while meeting the client’s budget and programme requirements. By working closely with all project stakeholders, our versatile skills and knowledge allowed for strategic engagements that improved the outcome for all stakeholders and the community.

A holistic approach to problem solving

The project site was bounded on three sides by residential dwellings, therefore managing these residents’ expectations given the scale of the project was a priority.

During the oval re-works and during stolon installation, soil conditions were tested regularly to identify any inground pests that would affect the new grass. Pests were identified and a program of treatment adopted to mitigate the risk to the new grass and neighbouring properties.
